Privacy Policy

Last updated: 6 November 2026

The short version

  • There is no Passmio account. We don’t ask for your name, email or phone number.
  • Your trips, locations, photos and counters are stored only on your phone. We have no server that receives them.
  • The photo scan and the country lookup run on your phone, with maps built into the app.
  • No ads, no advertising IDs, no analytics or tracking SDKs, and we never sell data.
  • Payments are handled by Apple or Google. We don’t see your card details.

1. Who we are

This policy covers the Passmio mobile app for iPhone and Android (the App) and the website passmio.app (the Website). “Passmio”, “we” and “us” mean the operator of the App. You can reach us at hello@passmio.app.

Because the App keeps your data on your device, in most cases we never receive personal data from it at all. Where we do process personal data (for example, if you email us), we are the data controller.

2. Data in the App

The App stores the following on your device only. It is not sent to us or to anyone else.

DataWhyWhere it stays
Profile: name, optional photo, home country, passport countryShown on your passport page; home and passport decide which rules applyOn your phone
Trips: country, optional city, dates, how the trip was addedCounting days and showing your calendar and stampsOn your phone
Counters and custom rules, including start and end datesCalculating days left and remindersOn your phone
Daily location check-ins (if automatic tracking is on)Recording the country you are in each dayOn your phone; only the country and date are kept
Settings, badges and app preferencesMaking the App work as you set it upOn your phone

Deleting the App deletes this data. You can also erase it at any time in Profile → Delete all data. If your phone’s system backup (iCloud or Google) is turned on, your device may include the App’s data in that backup under Apple’s or Google’s terms; we have no access to it.

3. Permissions the App asks for

Every permission is optional. The App still works without it; you can add trips by hand.

Photos

Used for two things: rebuilding past trips and adding your photos to share images. For trip rebuilding, the App reads only the date and location stored in each photo and looks up the country with offline maps built into the App. Photos and their locations are never uploaded. Screenshots are skipped. On iPhone you can share only selected photos.

If you choose to save a share image, the App asks for permission to add it to your library.

Location

If you turn on automatic tracking, the App checks your location a few times a day in the background to record which country (and, where a rule needs it, which US state or Canadian province) you are in. The country is worked out on your phone. Location is never sent to us or to third parties. You can turn this off in the App or in your phone’s settings at any time.

Notifications

Used for reminders, such as a limit you are close to or a custom counter that is about to end. They are scheduled on your phone; we don’t run a push server and don’t collect a push token.

Profile photo

If you add a profile photo, the system picker gives the App only the photo you choose. A copy is kept inside the App’s private storage.

4. Purchases

Passmio Pro is sold through the Apple App Store and Google Play. Apple or Google processes your payment under their own privacy policies, and we never see your name, email or card details.

To unlock Pro and restore purchases, the App checks your purchase status with the store. We may use a subscription service provider (such as RevenueCat) to do this. It receives an anonymous app user ID and your purchase records (product, price, dates, country of the store), not your trips or locations. We use this only to provide and support your subscription, and to see aggregate sales figures.

5. This website

The Website is hosted on Google Firebase Hosting. When you visit, Firebase receives the technical data any web server sees, such as your IP address, browser type and the page requested, and may keep it in short-term logs for security and reliability. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which also receives your IP address.

The Website sets no cookies of its own and uses no analytics, ads or tracking pixels. Links to the App Store and Google Play take you to sites with their own policies.

6. Sharing and selling

We don’t sell, rent or trade personal data, and we don’t share it for advertising. Because your App data stays on your phone, we have nothing to share. Share images you create are only sent where you choose to send them, through your phone’s share sheet.

We would only disclose the limited data we hold (such as an email you sent us) if the law requires it.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the UK or EU GDPR, Canadian law or US state laws), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal data, and to object to or restrict how it is used.

  • App data is fully in your control on your device: you can see it, change it and delete it in the App.
  • Emails and support requests: write to hello@passmio.app and we will reply within one month.
  • Purchases: manage or cancel subscriptions in your App Store or Google Play account.

You can also complain to your local data protection authority (in the UK, the ICO).

Legal bases (UK/EU): we process support emails to answer you (legitimate interest), purchase records to provide Pro (contract) and website logs for security (legitimate interest).

8. How long we keep data

App data stays on your phone until you delete it. Support emails are kept for up to two years after the conversation ends. Purchase records are kept as long as needed for your subscription and as required by tax law.

9. Children

Passmio is not aimed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we don’t knowingly collect their personal data.

10. Changes to this policy

If we change how the App handles data, for example by adding an optional backup, we will update this page and the date at the top, and tell you in the App before the change applies to you.
